Textual Analysis – PROFESSOR GREEN
Denotation:The magazine cover consists of a colour photograph of a man looking directly at the camera. It is a medium shot showing his waist upwards. He is standing in the shot. The background of the photograph is black, and the photograph covers the whole of the magazine cover. Behind the woman is the ‘RWD’. The photographed man’s name is in red capitals. A bar code isn’t visible.
Masthead: RWD’s masthead is very distinctive: Red with white through it like it is club lights. The font used is similar the famous ‘club’ writing and connotes night life. The words ‘party all night with pro green’ links with the connotations of the masthead has it says ‘club’. By using this line it tells the audience that there will be an interview, telling the target audience that RWD aren’t just about music.
Character: The Cover photograph is of the successful British singer ‘Professor Green’.
Composition: He is posed in a very aggressive structure ‘hard’ kind of a way. His pose, body language, and clothing, are very calm, hard and aggressive.
Costume: His clothing is black and red body warmer with a white t-shirt underneath, a gold watch is visible. They would have a good knowledge of popular culture, with artist like professor green. A definite interest in a wide range of musical styles and the music industry generally. They are likely to be able to write and have an interest in popular culture.
